Wastewater Treatment Plants Waveband Remediation

This is a project to safeguard the stability of the pond embankments at the Waipukurau and Waipawa WWTPs and is due to have physical works starting from 22nd November, 2021.

Barker Contracting have been engaged to complete the works, starting at Waipukurau. Compacted fill, geotextile fabric, a concrete nib and rib-rap rock will be installed and protect the embankments from erosion caused by high water levels and wind caused wave action.

Baron Contractors have successfully completed the Waveband Remediation project at the Waipukurau and Waipawa WWTP’s, armouring more than 1.2 km of the pond banks. In addition to this, they have also complete landscaping works around the Waipawa wastewater compound including resurfacing inside the main treatment area and extending the fencing around the new DAF unit.

Barkers have completed armouring banks works at the Waipukurau wastewater treatment pond and will be starting remediation works on the Waipawa wastewater treatment pond in mid-February.

The team is making good progress, our contractor, Barkers, have excavated around the Waipukurau pond - they have laid 350m of geotextile cloth and poured about 250m of the 600m of concrete around the perimeter. They will be installing pads strategically around the pond, making it safer for the operators to access the pond while conducting sampling of the wastewater.

Barkers have made steady progress on the waveband remediation at the Waipukurau WWTP. So far, approximately 90m of the 600m perimeter has been concreted and 400m has been excavated in preparation for concrete and eventually the placement of rip-rap rock.
