Public Toilets

The Central Hawke's Bay District Council maintains public toilets around the District. These facilities cover most popular beaches, sports parks and recreation areas. Those toilets in high-use areas are cleaned once a day by Council's Facilities Maintenance Contractor.

Public toilets are located in the following areas:


  • Nellie Jull Park (Islington Street behind Waipawa Shops)
  • Coronation Park (off Ruataniwha Street)
  • Public Swimming Pool (off Harker Street)
  • Cemetery (Cemetery Road, off Tikokino Road)


  • Railway Esplanade (adjacent to the Railway Station)
  • Russell Park (River Terrace)
  • Russell Park (River Terrace) BMX Track
  • A'Deane Park (2 Wallace Road)
  • Post Office Corner (corner of Ruataniwha St and Porangahau Rd)


  • Adjacent to Otane Hall (Higginson Street)

Onga Onga

  • Next to Onga Onga Museum (Bridge Street).  The Public Toilets in Onga Onga were originally police cells.


  • Corner of Sydney & Charlotte Streets


  • Tikokino War Memorial Community Centre


  • White Domain (41 Dundas Street)


Porangahau Beach

  • Southern end of Te Paerahi Beach (Beach Road)

Blackhead Beach

  • Blackhead Beach Camp (McHardy Place)

Pourerere Beach

  • Pourerere Road, situated on the right side of the road along the beachfront when heading towards the Pourerere Camping Ground. These conveniences include changing rooms.

Kairakau Beach

  • Kairakau Beach Foreshore, one at southern end and one at northern end.

Aramoana Beach

  • End of Gibraltar Road at the southern end of the beach

Coronation Park toilets are situated in Coronation Park at the end of Ruataniwha St, Waipawa Blackhead Beach Toilets are situated in the Blackhead Beach Campground Kairakau Beach Toilets North are at the northern end of the beach The Aramoana Beach Toilets are situated in the carpark at the end of the road Pourerere Public Toilets are situated on Pourerere Beach Rd Waipawa Cemetery Toilets are situated up Cemetery Rd just inside the cemetery main gate Takapau public toilets are situated on the corner of Charlotte and Sydney Streets Takapau Waipawa swimming pool toilets are situated on Harker St off State Highway 2 Waipawa South Tikokino toilets are situated on Owen St off State Highway 50 BMX Track Toilets are situated behind the BMX track in Russell Park, Waipukurau off River Terrace Russell Park Toilets are situated off River Terrace in Waipukurau Railway Esplanade Toilets are situated on Railway Esplanade next to the Railway Station Waipukurau Post Office corner toilets are situated on the corner of Ruataniwha St and Porangahau Rd, Waipukurau Te Paerahi toilets are located on Beach Rd, Porangahau Porangahau Beach toilets are situated on Te Paerahi Rd Porangahau Toilets are located on Dundas St Otane Town Hall toilets are situated on the corner of Higginson and Ross Sts Otane Recreation Ground toilets are located in Rochfort St Ongaonga Public Toilets are located in Bridge Street and are housed in the original police cells Nelly Jull toilets are located in Nelly Jull Park behind High St, Waipawa A'Deane Park Toilets are situated on the corner of Porangahau Rd & Wallace Rd
