Kerbside Collections

Rubbish and recycling kerbside collections are available on the days and locations below:

  • Monday: Waipukurau (Pink Zone)Website tiles 14
  • Tuesday: Waipukurau (Yellow Zone)
  • Wednesday: Waipawa
  • Thursday: Otāne, Takapau, Tikokino, Ongaonga

Place your Council recycling crates and rubbish bags kerbside by 7.30am on your collection day.

No kerbside collections on Christmas Day and Good Friday.

There is a rubbish only kerbside collection as follows:

  •   Sunday: Blackhead Beach
  •   Monday: Kairakau, Mangakuri, Armoana, Pourerere Beaches
  •   Thursday: Pōrangahau/Te Paerahi Beach



Recycling Crates

Website tiles 12If your house receives kerbside recycling collection as part of your rates, your property has been allocated three crates. 

  • Red crate - glass only.
  • Teal crate - paper & small cardboard volumes. Collapse down as much as possible. Larger cardboard boxes and cardboard volumes can be taken to recycling drop-off centres at any time and disposed of for free.
  • Black/Blue crate - plastic bottles and plastics (1,2,5) and cans. Recyclables must be clean and lids/tops removed (for rubbish).

The crates must remain with your property when you move. If you require a crate, phone Council on 06 857 8060, or pop in and see us at our Waipawa office or Waipawa Library.

Recycling Information

Recycling includes cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and plastics (1, 2 & 5), cans and glass will be accepted if it is clean. 
Check the bottom of your plastics to find the number. Wash, squash and take lids and tops off plastics and glass. View the recycling made easy guide.

Rural Recycling Trailer Service

Two mobile recycling trailers operate in our rural communities where Drop-Off Centres and kerbside collections are unavailable. 
The trailers operate from 8am to 4pm on the following days and locations:


  • Monday & Tuesday: Elsthorpe Hall and Argyll Hall
  • Wednesday:  Omakere Hall
  • Thursday & Friday: Sherwood School and Flemington School

The trailers do not operate on Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day. Sometimes the service may be disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances eg severe weather events or unplanned road closures. We will let people know via our Facebook page and this website as soon as we can.


Wheelie Bins

Council has paused the implementation of wheelie bins for kerbside refuse collection while it assesses priorities in light of Cyclone Gabrielle's effects and also awaits for Central Government to provide clarification on future waste-related policies.
