Great North Road Water Supply and Wastewater Upgrade

In December 2022, Central Hawke’s Bay District Council began work on upgrading the water main on Great North Road between Tamumu Road and Abbotsford Road. We also extended the existing wastewater network that runs along Great North Road between Tamumu Road and Abbotsford Road. These were known as Stage 1 and Stage 2.

The Central Hawke’s Bay Higgins team delivered this project as contractors to Council, establishing the site in November 2022 and completing the upgrade by August 2023.

Upgrading these critical assets has been an important part of Council maintaining its levels of service and ensuring reliable, durable and environmentally sustainable infrastructure that can service our growing communities for years to come.

Our work

Water Supply Upgrade – Stage 1 (Light Blue line)

The water supply upgrade took place along Great North Road between Tamumu Road and Abbotsford Road. We replaced approx. 215 metres of aged and undersized pipe to cater for growth in the area and improve resiliency of the drinking water network servicing the northern area of Waipawa

Wastewater Upgrade – Stage 2 (Red line)

The wastewater extension connects to existing infrastructure on Tamumu Road at the intersection of Collins Street. It extends by approx. 290 metres along the western side of Great North Road to Abbotsford Road, allowing for future growth in the area.
