Throughout the year, Central Hawke’s Bay District Council will be organising Waste Free CHB Events across our district, providing local residents with opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle their waste and minimising what is sent to landfill. HazMobile - Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day

Have you got a shed full of old paint cans, used batteries or old gas bottles? Now is the time to clear it all out!

We are holding a FREE Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day with our HazMobile, so these items can be disposed of safely, in a way that protects our people and the environment.

You will need to book out a time between 9am to 4pm on Sunday, April 16 to drop your hazardous waste at Waipukurau Transfer Station by filling out this form. Make sure to pre-book your place to avoid delays or missing out. You can now book a timeslot by going to CHBDC Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day Tickets or by scanning the code below:

 All about Hazardous Waste

It is dangerous to keep unused household and garden chemicals for long periods and containers (even if empty) must not be put out with recycling or mixed in with general rubbish.

It is also illegal to tip hazardous waste into storm water drains and containers should not be burnt as they may give off toxic fumes. 

We are accepting the following Hazardous materials:

  • Paints, solvents and paint strippers
  • Wood preservatives
  • Glues and resins
  • All types of garden chemicals - including pesticides, herbicides, and fertilisers
  • Petrol, oil and diesel
  • Car care products
  • All types of cleaners including toilet and drain cleaners, oven cleaners, bleaches, and disinfectants
  • Pool chemicals
  • Furniture/shoe polish
  • All types of batteries, including car, boat batteries and rechargeable batteries
  • Gas cylinders

NB: Anyone bringing waste that is not accepted from the list above, will be turned away and advised to go to the closest transfer station.

Please do not try to dispose of:

  • Commercial quantities of hazardous waste
  • School or laboratory chemicals 
  • Asbestos
  • Lead-based paint scrapings
  • Electronic waste
  • Whiteware
  • Tyres
  • Medical waste
