On this page you will find information about CHB's Roading network and any information regarding weather events that impact our roads

ROADING UPDATES

Please find below details of those roads and bridges in the district where access is currently restricted or caution advised due to general damage, maintenance requirements and the devastating effects of Cyclone Gabrielle. Our Land and Transport Team together with our post-cyclone Road to Recovery team are working hard to prioritise and address all damage on the roading network and thank you for your patience and support as we manage the workload.

ROAD CLOSED 

  • Harker Street: CLOSED at the rail underpass. No through access due to cyclone damage to the protective structure. Access via SH2/Victoria Street.
  • Te Uri Road: CLOSED at 17 km from Mangaorapa Road due to cyclone damage affecting the road. No through access.
  • Walker Road: CLOSED due to cyclone damage to road

CAUTION

  • SH50 Tukipo Stream Bridge (South of Ashcott Road): Bridge repairs from Tuesday 9 January 2024 until mid - March. There will be Stop/Go traffic management in place during this time between 7am - 5pm. The road will return to two lanes after work hours. For further information visit NZTA.
  • Tourere Road: Resident access only; 3,500 kg restriction. Multiple dropouts due to cyclone damage
  • Makaramu Bridge (bridge to Te Paerahi/Pōrangahau Beach): Bridge restrictions in place - light vehicles only (under 3,500kg), one vehicle at a time, 30km speed limit. No heavy vehicles, motorhomes, caravans, boats or horse floats. Moving of concrete barriers is not permitted. Notice of Makaramu bridge restrictions
