Cyclone Gabrielle -Rubbish & Recycling

Rubbish and Recycling

Most of our services have resumed to normal across the district. The rural recycling trailer to Elsthorpe is currently suspended until further notice due to road closures and limited resources.

Disposal of flood damaged goods

Free Waste Permits for the disposal of flood damaged goods will be closing on Monday 17 April. This will allow those affected by the floods, Easter weekend to organise the disposal. If you are yet to dispose of flood damaged items due to circumstance, please contact Central Hawke's Bay District Council to discuss - Phone 06 857 8060.

The permit for free disposal only applies for household contents, not home repairs. This means if you are carrying out building repair works, e.g. stripping gib, flooring, timber and insulation as part of an insurance claim, you will not qualify for free disposal.
If you are a contractor working on behalf of an insurer, you cannot qualify for a waste permit and there is no need to apply for one. You will need to go to the landfill or transfer station during opening hours, pay the charge for the disposal of the material as it forms part of the insurance claim.
