Full-time employment a whole New World

New World Photo 2

Alee Paterson, a Central Hawke’s Bay College school leaver, has achieved her goal of full-time employment with the help of a collaboration of local services. After approaching Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay, Alee embarked on a journey that led to her successful placement at New World Waipukurau.
Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay helped Alee create a CV and connected her with Anna Tennent from Complete Coaching Hawke's Bay. Anna, who specialises in career coaching, helped Alee identify her strengths and potential local employment opportunities. “Each young person has a unique set of life circumstances, strengths and barriers that must be considered when exploring career opportunities that will both set them up for the stage of life they are at now but also open up pathways in the future.” Alee plans to study and land a role in the film industry in the future, but for now her main goals are gaining work experience and financial independence.
On successfully securing an interview for the New World position, Alee was supported by Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay and Tricia Williams, a local Work and Income work broker, and received MSD funding to support her application. The MSD product incentivises employers to hire candidates with little to no work experience. Alee landed the role as a grocery assistant following her successful interview and is thrilled with the positive result. “The job at New World Waipukurau is great for a school leaver like me; the team are nice and quick to help when needed.”
New World’s openness to employing young individuals like Alee reflects their commitment to developing youth within the community.
