Orange Rain Warning for Central Hawke's Bay

Orange Template 15

Good evening Central Hawke’s Bay.

With a soggy night ahead, we know many will be feeling anxious, but we want you to know our teams are closely monitoring the situation. Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will be keeping a close eye on river levels and are in regular contact with us.

Metservice has issued an Orange Rain Warning for the district, from 9am today (Thursday June 22), until 12am Sunday 25 June. As a result of this we expect there will be some surface flooding and the potential for slips and further road closures overnight in Central Hawke’s Bay.

Make sure to keep up to date with developments on our Central Hawke's Bay District Council Facebook Page, website www.chbdc.govt.nz and by listening to Central FM radio station.

Our advice is to be prepared and take action as appropriate:

  • Stay aware, keep an eye on the latest forecasts and conditions at: https://www.metservice.com/national
  • Refresh your plan, now is a good time to check your grab bag (one grab bag per person) and make sure everyone knows your household emergency plan. More info here: https://getready.govt.nz/en/prepared/household/
  • Put safety first. Don’t take any chances, stay away from rivers. Act quickly if you see rising water. We have teams prepared and ready to respond overnight if anything escalates.
  • Please avoid unnecessary travel from now through until daylight.
  • Limit water usage to help relieve pressure on our networks, and allow for us to prepare.
  • Keep an eye on power outages throughout the district and report any issues here: https://www.centralines.co.nz/outages
  • If you need urgent help overnight, ring 111 and ask for assistance. This includes evacuation, where Emergency Services know where to direct people.

We understand that many in our communities are feeling heightened anxiety in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle. If you're feeling anxious, it’s important to know that you do not have to go through this on your own. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out and free call or text 1737, or call Lifeline Aotearoa on 0800 543 354.

We are keeping a close eye on things and will update you as necessary. Take care out there!
