Cyclone Disruption Inspires New Career Pathway

Olly

20yr old Olly approached the Jobs in Central Hawkes Bay team in the Mobile Employment Hub looking for work, he had been laid off early from his current employment due to Cyclone Gabrielle.

After speaking with Olly we found out he had been at University in Otago for a few years but was finding the living arrangements difficult and decided it was time to come home and earn some money.  He spoke about working for 12 months and then possibly travelling. We met with Olly again and organised to update his CV, referred him to sit his full licence with Connect Drivers Licensing and suggested he come along to our employment workshop with MSD which he did.

In the background Jobs in Central Hawkes Bay had been approached by Scott from Centralines Ltd. who was looking for staff.  We passed on his CV and Olly got an interview.  Olly was successful and on the 22 March 2023 he began his new role with Centralines Ltd in a Traffic Management role.

Olly shared how he likes the people he is working with and is enjoying his new role.  “The process of meeting and connecting with the Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay team was easy, I would encourage others to go and see them and get the support you need.  They were great!” It was also a good process for the employer.  Scott contacted us to share what Centralines Ltd was looking for and Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay connected the dots.  Congratulations to both Olly and Centralines Ltd on a great match!
