Two drive-through mass vaccination clinics will be available in Waipukurau on Friday and Saturday (10 and 11 September) for anyone aged 12 and over.

Hawke’s Bay DHB’s vaccination programme lead Chris McKenna said the team was excited to offer the very popular drive-through/walk-in clinics, that people can book into or simply turn-up to, for Central Hawke’s Bay residents.

“We have worked with the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council on a suitable site and look forward to welcoming the people of CHB and meeting the demand of locals to get protected and get vaccinated,” she said.

The drive-through vaccination clinics will be held at CHB Rugby & Sports Club, Mitchell Street, Waipukurau on both days between 9:30am and 4pm. People can book in advance through BookMyVaccine – https://bookmyvaccine.covid19.health.nz/ . Booked appointments will be prioritised.

Mrs McKenna said we have already seen great uptake of the vaccine with at least 61percent, (as of Monday 6 September), of the CHB population having had at least one dose of the vaccine.

“There is great news and we will hope to reach another large group of the population through the drive-through and really bump up those numbers with capacity for between 500 and 600 vaccinations per day,” she said.

Anyone wanting their first vaccine, or who are due their second vaccine, could attend this weekend’s drive-through clinics. Anyone due for their second vaccination must have had a minimum of 21 days between doses. If people already have a booking for their second dose they should keep that appointment rather than come to the drive-through.

People who had booked for the Waipawa Rugby Club clinic on Saturday September 11, will receive a text or email letting them know the venue for their vaccination  has changed to the drive-through at the CHB Rugby and Sports Club, Mitchell Street. The booking will be for the same time.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Nick Jones also reminded people who were unwell with cold or flu like symptoms to get tested for COVID-19

“We have fast turnaround times of testing results in Hawke’s Bay on average within 25 hours,” he said.

“Central Hawke’s Bay residents simply need to call their doctor or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 to arrange a test,” he said.
