Central Hawke's Bay District Council Announces By-Election

CHBDC Crest White Ribbon

A by-election will be held for the Ruataniwha Ward in Central Hawke’s Bay, to fill one extraordinary vacancy on the Council following the recent passing of Councillor Tim Chote.

Nominations for the position are now open and close at 12 noon on Thursday 20 August 2020. Nominations must be made on the official nomination form which can be requested from the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council, or downloaded from the Council website here. Each nomination must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 including GST, as well as a candidate profile statement and a recent colour photograph.

Prior to completing their application, those interested in making a nomination are advised to review the ‘Candidate Information Sheet’ for instructions and requirements, which is available to collect from the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council Waipawa office, or to download from the website here.

To stand you must be a New Zealand citizen who is enrolled on the parliamentary electoral roll, and be nominated by two electors within the Ruataniwha Ward area.  Council candidates do not need to live in the ward or district they are seeking to represent, however.

Anyone interested in standing for Council is encouraged to attend upcoming Council meetings.  Council’s meeting schedule is available here.

If an election is required to fill this vacancy, the election will be conducted by postal voting under the First Past the Post electoral system. Candidate names will be listed in random order on the voting papers.

Central Hawke’s Bay residents can view and update their details on the preliminary roll for the by-election at the Council office from Thursday 23 July to 4.00pm Thursday 20 August 2020.
