Takapau water update

Takapau
Contractors have now completed flushing of the mains pipes in the Takapau network, following water quality issues caused by a water main break yesterday afternoon

Residents are advised that some water discolouration may still be seen when taps are first turned on. If this is the case, please run the tap for ten minutes to allow the water to clear. If discolouration still exists after ten minutes, please phone 06 857 8060 to report this issue giving your full address and details of when you first noticed the issue, or if it cleared and then came back.

Monique Davidson, chief executive for Central Hawke’s Bay District Council says: “We're sorry for the inconvenience of these issues and thank our Takapau community for their patience and support while our teams responded to the problem. Improving the quality of our water supply in Central Hawke’s Bay is a huge priority for the council. This is especially true for the Takapau community who we know has had to deal with water quality issues for some years, due to unusually high amounts of manganese in the source water and challenges with the original network design.

“Last month, contractors started work on a $900,000 Water Treatment Plant upgrade for Takapau, which is expected to be completed by October / November this year. Once this new plant is up and running, Takapau will finally have the water quality it rightly deserves.”

Work is also underway to upgrade the Water Treatment Plant for our Porangahau community which is due to be completed around the same time.

To report water quality issues please contact us on our 24/7 line on 857 8060 or email customerservice@chbdc.govt.nz
