Drones in CHB

If you are operating a drone, you are a pilot and therefore have a shared responsibility for the safety and security of everyone. The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA) provide rules on how to safely fly your drone on their website under . Some of the basic rules include:

  • Don’t fly over people you don’t have consent from (you shouldn’t take off or land within 30m of someone who you don’t have consent of either)
  • Don’t fly within 4km of an aerodrome
  • Fly only in daylight
  • Make sure you can see the drone with your own eyes (or have a second person acting as an observer who can see it)
