32 Central Hawke’s Bay voluntary organisations are set to get a boost in funding, thanks to grants from the Central Hawke’s Bay District Councils Community Volunteer Organisations Scheme.
The Community Volunteer Organisations Scheme Fund is available to community based voluntary non-profit organisations in Central Hawke’s Bay.

The Community Voluntary Organisation Support Fund seeks to support Central Hawke’s Bay Community based not-for-profit organisations that support the community to THRIVE. The $30,000 fund is made up of two categories, with $10,000 available for new community projects and initiatives and $20,000 available to organisations for ongoing financial support.

A total of 44 applications to the fund were received, the highest number of requests in the funds history with over $140,000 being collectively sought from the fund.
Recipients received funding ranging from $430 to $2,500 with some of the recipients being the Takapau Christmas Lights House, Central Hawkes Bay Foodbank, Elsthorpe Community Playgroup, Porangahau Play centre, Pukehou Playgroup and Ongaonga Historical Society
.
“It’s a huge challenge for the assessment committee balancing and prioritising which local community organisations to support”, says Community Development Lead Christine Renata. “They all make a significant contribution to Central Hawkes Bay. While the value of some funds might seem small, we know that the impact they have on the organisations that receive them is huge”.
As part of the 2018 Long Term Plan, the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council increased the Community Voluntary Organisation Support Fund by $5,000 noting the impact that funds received has for local community organisations and how its positively contributes to the outcomes of Project THRIVE.

Funds have been fully allocated for the 2018/19 year with the next funding round opening in July 2
