The recent inaugural meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay Community Reference Group marks a significant cornerstone for the social wellbeing of Central Hawke’s Bay residents.

The Community Reference Group comprising of Senior Responsible Officers of Central Government Agencies will regularly meet and engage with Council on Central Government and local matters for those most vulnerable and underrepresented in our community.

The key focus of the Group is to provide strategic leadership to agencies and initiatives delivering programmes within the Central Hawke’s Bay District and to provide a consistent and co-ordinated approach to result in an improved social wellbeing of Central Hawke’s Bay residents.

“Our Council recognise that we play a significant role in promoting and improving the wellbeing of our community” says Mayor Alex Walker.   “The formation of the Central Hawke’s Bay Community Reference Group brings together key government agencies and provides a great foundation for working collaboratively, building strong communities with connected citizens and creating the best outcomes for our people”.

The Central Hawke’s Bay District Council’s Community Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2020 vision, is for Central Hawke’s Bay to be the leading district for caring for the wellbeing of its people. The Strategy provides a framework for decision-making and prioritisation of social issues or areas of greatest social need within the district.

The Community Reference Group will play an important role in fostering strategic collaboration and partnerships and encouraging community based local solutions to local problems.

Community Development Co-ordinator, Christine Renata says “The Reference Group brings together the various forums and our communities related action plans, as well as key individual agencies to plan and collectively monitor the impact we are having on our community”.

“The Group provides a forum for sub groups and tangata whenua to highlight community issues and also creates a platform for central government and our regional partners to hear the voice of the Central Hawke’s Bay community” says Mrs Renata.

The Community Reference Group intend to meet every six months or at shorter frequencies as agreed by the Group.
