Children’s Day set to attract the family crowds for community picnic at Russell Park

IMG 4796

Children’s Day is on this Sunday 3 March and Russell Park is set to be a hive of activity with a community picnic, pony rides, and activity stations all tailored to bring out the largest imaginations amongst the smallest of our community members.

In celebration of National Children’s Day, the event is a community collaboration of organisations offering various activities to encourage active play amongst local tamariki.

Kicking off from 10am, families are encouraged to bring a picnic to Russell Park, where children can enjoy creative play with the Waka Tākaro play trailer, pony rides, giant bubbles and free ice blocks.

Proud sponsors of this year’s Children’s Day event are:

  • Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (donating free pony rides)
  • Central Hawke’s Bay Parenting Support Services
  • Oranga Tamariki (donating sausage sizzle)
  • Central Hawke’s Bay Pregnancy and Parenting
  • Roadsafe Hawke's Bay
  • New World Waipukurau (donating free apples and ice blocks)
  • Pregnancy Help
  • Napier Family Centre
  • Bright Futures
  • Central Hawke’s Bay District Council
  • Central Hawke’s Bay District Libraries

Following on from Children’s Day this Sunday is National ‘Parks Week’ running from 4–10 March, with the theme this year of ’Wellbeing’. Central Hawke’s Bay is spoilt for choice with an array of outdoor parks and reserves and local families are encouraged to take time next week to explore these spaces and reignite the imagination of the younger generations.
