The 2023 Waipawa Building Society Scholarship recipients received their awards this week.

Established in 1990 by the Waipawa County Permanent Building and Investment Society, the Waipawa Building Society Scholarship Trust provides financial assistance to Central Hawke’s Bay residents who are or will be attending a course of tertiary education in New Zealand.

The recipients are: Ella Malcolm, who will study business through Massey University, Ellyn Ross, who will study hotel management through the Pacific International Hotel Management School, and Celeste LeLievre, who will next year embark on the second year of a three-year Bachelor of Education (ECE) degree.

The Waipawa Building Society Trustees are Central Hawke’s Bay Mayor Alex Walker, Councillor Pip Burne, and Chief Executive Doug Tate along with members of the Waipawa District Lions Club and the Waipukurau Rotary Club.

Mayor Alex Walker and Councillors warmly congratulated the three 2023 scholarship recipients.

“The future of our community lies with our young people. We look forward to celebrating your academic successes as you progress through your studies,” says Mayor Alex Walker.

Ella and Ellyn's scholarships were awarded at 2023’s final meeting of full Council before they joined the Mayor and Councillors for morning tea. Mayor Walker later presented Celeste with her scholarship at her workplace.

Funding applications will open again in late 2024.
