Jobs in Central Hawkes Bay have partnered with the Waipukurau Rotary Club since 2021 to come together and celebrate our emerging workforce in Central Hawke's Bay. This successful collaboration celebrates Central Hawke’s Bays thriving young workforce each November in a special ceremony at the Waipawa Municipal Theatre.

The event consists of three different categories; we celebrate our recent on-the-job graduates with the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs Trades Graduation, highlight the districts top young talent with the Waipukurau Rotary Young Employee of the Year, and showcase great local employers with the Youth Friendly Employer of the Year.

Celebrating local on the job trainees who have completed their level 2 and above training qualifications with the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) Trades Graduation.

MTFJ has a goal to elevate the status of trades and service careers. These careers are accessible to young people and provide an 'earn-and-learn' pathway. Trade careers are of particular interest as New Zealand currently has a shortage of tradespeople and a boom in several associated industries.

MTFJ runs Industry Training Graduations to recognise the achievements of recent graduates and provide an opportunity for the trainees and apprentices to celebrate with their families, friends and employers.

Graduation ceremonies are attended by graduates who have recently completed a National Certificate qualification with an Industry Training Organisation (ITO), the local Mayor and Councillors, and the ITOs themselves.

The graduations are a time for celebration as well as thanks to local employers for their ongoing commitment to youth and training.

Our local Central Hawke's Bay Graduation is held in November each year at the Central Hawke's Bay Municipal Theatre.

Do you employ Central Hawke’s Bays’ Young Employee of the Year?

In 1994 the Waipukurau Rotary Club established the Young Employee of the Year Awards. This year the Rotary Club of Waipukurau are seeking nominations from employers from around the district to nominate their best and brightest young employee. This award aims to recognise excellence, effort, dedication and making a difference. The award will recognise young people who are excelling and making a significant contribution to their place of work.

Nominations will be accepted for full time employees between 18 - 30 years old and should display the following attributes: · A bubbly personality that is friendly and confident with diverse groups of people · A strong work ethic with a keen aptitude to learn · A desire to succeed and build a personal reputation · The drive to go the extra mile for both the employer and the customer · The courage to give things a go · Energy to fit well into a team · Obvious leadership skills · Well set goals for the future for both their vocation and the personal life.

Do you have a Youth Friendly Employer?

Would you like to nominate them for the Youth Friendly Employer of the Year Award?

You must be under 25 years of age and have been working for the business for at least 6 months in order to nominate your employer.

The Youth Friendly Employer Award is proudly supported by the Waipukurau Rotary Club and Jobs in Central Hawke's Bay in an effort to celebrate local businesses who are creating great spaces and opportunities for our young people to work.

The successful winner will feature in a 1/2page article in the CHB Mail and win a workplace morning tea shout.

The Award will be presented as part of our annual Mayors Taskforce for Jobs Trades Graduation and Waipukurau Rotary Young Employee of the Year event held at the Waipawa Municipal Theatre.

Nominations open 1 September and close 5pm 30 September.

2022 Waipukurau Rotary Young Employee of the Year

"Winning this award made me realize my potential and that my hard work is being noticed by those around me. My passion is young people, and my job is already so rewarding, but to have my co-workers and Rotary members acknowledge me truly helped grow my self-confidence. Winning this award, I was able to meet many amazing young adults through RYLA, which I recommend everyone should do; it is a great opportunity. "It was a real turning point for me when I was interviewed by 3 members of Waipukurau Rotary. I talked with them about my employment history and also my goals for my own photography business. I truly believe all of the opportunities were out there but I had the confidence and belief in myself to give things a go which came from winning Young Employee of the Year 2021.  I will forever be grateful to those that saw something special in me!"
