Rubbish and Recycling Facilities

  • Transfer Stations (four): Located in Waipukurau, Waipawa, Pōrangahau and Takapau. For operational hours and details of what is accepted at each Transfer Station see table below.
  • Drop-Off Centres (seven): Open 24 hours a day, these are located in Waipukurau, Waipawa, Pōrangahau, Otāne, Tikokino, Ongaonga and Takapau (see table below).
  • Kerbside Collections: Rubbish and Recycling kerbside collections are available in the townships of Waipukurau (Pink & Yellow zones), Waipawa, Otāne, Ongaonga, Tikokino ad Takapau. For our beach communities there is a rubbish only kerbside collection available in Blackhead, Kairakau, Mangakuri, Armoana, Pourerere and Pōrangahau/Te Paerahi (see table below).
  • Rural Recycling Trailers:  There are two Rural Recycling Trailers visiting our rural communities in Elsthorpe, Argyll, Omakere, Sherwood and Flemington. Location and details in the table below.

Landfill

The District landfill at 806 Farm Road in Waipukurau is only open to commercial operators and contractors with a landfill tag. It is not open to the public. The landfill is open from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 3pm, accessible only with a landfill tag. Users must allow enough time to ensure they vacate the site before closing time. Anyone wishing to gain access to the landfill outside of the operational hours must contact CHB District Council on 06-857-8060. The Landfill is closed on weekends and public holidays.

Landfill Weighbridge

At the Landfill, all customers drive onto the weighbridge, use their tag in accordance with the instructions onsite, have their load weight recorded which will then be invoiced accordingly and self unload.

Landfill Tags

Landfill tags are available at the Council offices in Waipawa. A Landfill tag application form must be completed. Please note that the applicant business must have an account with Council before a tag will be issued

Terms and conditions of landfill usage:

The applicant uses the landfill at their own risk. Neither Council nor the landfill operators will be held responsible for any damage to vehicles and equipment on the site. Any abuse of the conditions will result in a request for immediate return of the tag and the revocation of the tag holder's privileges.
