Nelson St & Reservoir Rd - Additional Works - Stormwater Infrastructure

CHBDC and contract partners Higgins have finished the project to renew the Water mains in Nelson Street and Reservoir Road, Waipukurau. All residents have now been connected to the new, more resilient network. In addition, the project provided employment opportunities for two members of our local community who have now been offered permanent positions.

The water main project was strategically planned to enable the now redundant, old pipeline to be replaced with upgraded stormwater infrastructure. Work to install this is about to commence and aims to improve the ability to both catch and direct stormwater flows on Nelson St and eliminate known surface flooding issues.

Nelson St SW works

Update | 21 February 2022

Last week, Higgins has installed the last stormwater manhole and catch sump. The new manhole plays a crucial part in the stormwater project as it connects both the existing and new stormwater networks in Gaisford Terrace and Nelson Street.

Higgins is also carrying out reinstatement works on the footpath, kerb and channel after installing sumps. They will continue to install the remaining sumps on Nelson Street as part of the last piece of the stormwater network.

Update | 14 February 2022

Last week, Higgins carried out the installation of a new water connection tee on the Gaisford Terrace Water Main. This Connection will allow the abandonment of the old cast iron water main currently crossing Gaisford Terrace in Nelson Street (which is on the New Stormwater Pipe alignment). Once the stormwater pipe is completed into Nelson Street, the last section of the New Water Main across Gaisford Terrace into Nelson Street will be carried out. Higgins continue with installing new network infrastructure with another catch sump and lead installed for the improved Stormwater Network.
