MSD Employment Workshop

20220608 TeHuingaWai

Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay and the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) are working together to reach more people and help you into work. We’re reaching out to employers looking for staff and bringing them to you so you can have an informal chat about available roles and get a foot in the door.

Why come to our employment workshops?

  • Get in front of employers without the long application process. A CV is fantastic, but some people do better in person, and this is a perfect opportunity to get yourself face to face with those hiring and ask questions about the roles they’re looking to fill without the formal pressure of an interview.

  • Get support kanohi ki te kanohi. It can be a long wait on the phone to WINZ during peak times, this is a way to ask any questions you may have face-to-face with our local Work Broker Tricia and Case Manager Bruce

  • We're well connected. Sometimes it's a matter of you applying but not hearing back from a company. We deal with employers every day and often have direct contacts which can help you fast-track your job search

  • View all the jobs, in one place. Between the two organisations we have pretty much every job opportunity locally on display, plus a bunch we know of via employers working with us, that may not be advertised yet.

  • It's who you know. In a town, this size, having someone keeping an eye out for the type of work you're looking for can be really handy. Once we have met you face to face we can recommend you to employers, plus you have an extra bunch of people with you in mind when new opportunities pop up.

  • There's free kai. Not anything to do with job seeking. But periods of unemployment can be a big stressor in people's lives and having an informal chat with something to eat and working through a pathway - fleshing out all the potential options, can really lift a weight off your shoulders.

  • We know the lay of the land. We are connected to all kinds of support networks you may not even know are available. Once we have a chat about where you are currently, we can work with you to make a plan of action to help you grow. We often have local life coaches and Tai Whenua supports pop in to these workshops to see how they can help you.

Our next employment workshop will be held at Te Huinga Wai on Wednesday February 1st from 12.30pm. You are welcome to bring your kids along if you have them, or a friend/support person. Grab a bite to eat and letsmake a plan
