Have your say: Planning for the reserves, beaches and places we love in Central Hawke’s Bay

This summer while you’re out enjoying the best of Central Hawke’s Bay, we’re asking you to think ahead to how we can make or keep the places we love and enjoy special, for generations to come.
 
A plan is underway, to ensure that the community’s most cherished places in Central Hawke’s Bay are catered for in the long term.
 
Unprecedented growth means that the District Council is now looking ahead, planning for a vibrant and thriving district and tackling the burning issues for Central Hawke’s Bay’s social infrastructure.  This includes the future of the Waipukurau Library, what coastal camping looks like, and how to fund the ambitions the community has for its open space.
 
“In developing Project Thrive, we heard that the biggest personal priorities for our community are related to the things we really care about within our district – like our beaches, rural halls and reserves,” says Alex Walker, Mayor of Central Hawke’s Bay.
 
“Over the summer, while you’re out and about enjoying Central Hawke’s Bay, we want you to think about the places and spaces that you are using with your whānau and friends.
 
“These are the places and spaces that we’re going to be asking you to talk to us about,” says Mayor Walker.
 
Just in time for summer, Council will be installing QR codes at key locations across the district, where the community can scan in to provide feedback related to that location or other ideas they may have.
 
Feedback gathered will guide Council’s future investment in and management of its places and spaces network, programmes and other areas that support people being active and connected.
 
“The Places and Spaces for a Thriving Future programme is an opportunity for us to do some really transformational work, with the wants and needs of the Central Hawke’s Bay community at the forefront.”

A dedicated webpage with detail of the programme and its nine topic areas has been set up at www.chbdc.govt.nz/thriving-places-and-spaces. Feedback forms are available to complete both online, and in writing via Council reception or the CHB Mail. QR codes will be located at key locations and community are invited to scan in to provide feedback using their smart phone.
