Nominate Your Unsung Hero

Unsung Heroes 1

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council is asking residents to nominate their local Unsung Hero.

“There is no single person that can take the credit for our community coming through both drought and COVID lockdown” says Alex Walker, Mayor of Central Hawke’s Bay. “It has been a huge team effort from a huge number people doing a huge variety of things.”

“So many of our local people went above and beyond to help the community get through the COVID-19 lockdown and effects of the drought and we want to acknowledge every single one of them.

“Your hero may be someone in the community who went the extra mile to look after others - a neighbour who delivered your groceries, a friend who telephoned you regularly through lockdown or a local group who made people smile.

“No matter how big or small their contribution, we want to say thank you to our community heroes for helping us all to Thrive,” says Mayor Walker.

Unsung heroes can be nominated by completing a nomination form online or in writing. Paper nomination forms can be collected from the Council office in Waipawa, the Pop-up Service Centre in Waipukurau or the Waipawa Library.  To complete a nomination form online, head to https://www.chbdc.govt.nz/central-hawkes-bay-unsung-heroes/

This initiative follows this year's National Volunteer Week celebrations which ran from June 21-27. This year’s theme is ‘Te Hua o te Mahi Tahi - The benefit of working together’. It celebrates the collective contribution of volunteers who enrich Aotearoa New Zealand and acknowledges how our communities are stronger when working together.

Nominations close 10 July 2020.
