Cuppa with a Councillor: Central Hawke’s Bay’s Elected Members Invite Community to Chat

Alex

Central Hawke’s Bay’s Elected Members invite the community to gather at the District Libraries for a cup of tea and a chat.

The new initiative ‘Cuppa with a Councillor’ is intended as an open forum, where the community are encouraged to drop in to raise issues of importance, while getting to know their elected members in an informal setting.

Sessions will be held on a monthly basis, the first taking place with Mayor Alex Walker Wednesday 11 March from 9.30am – 10.30am, at the Waipawa Library. Community members are free to join the session at any stage during the course of the hour and are not required to book in advance.

“I love my job, and a part of it which I really enjoy is getting to know the people in our community,” says Mayor Alex. “It’s essential that we, as Mayor and Councillors, keep talking with and listening to those who live their lives in Central Hawke’s Bay. We want to know how things are going - what’s going well and what we can do better. We really encourage everyone who is able to drop by for a casual chat over a hot drink during one of the sessions.”

The ‘Cuppa with a Councillor’ schedule of sessions so far is as follows:

  • Wednesday 11 March, 9.30am - 10.30am, Waipawa Library, Mayor Alex Walker
  • Thursday 28 May, 10.00am- 11.00am, Waipawa Library, Councillor Tim Aitken
  • Thursday 25 June, 10.00am - 11.00am, Waipukurau Library, Councillor Kate Taylor
  • Thursday 16 July, 10.00am - 11.00am, Waipawa Library, Councillor Exham Wichman
  • Thursday 20 August, 10.00am - 11.00am, Waipukurau Library, Councillor Jerry Greer
