Drones in CHB

drone

If you are operating a drone, you are a pilot and therefore have a shared responsibility for the safety and security of everyone. The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA) provide rules on how to safely fly your drone on their website under https://www.caa.govt.nz/unmanned-aircraft/how-to-safely-fly-your-drone/ . Some of the basic rules include:

  • Don’t fly over people you don’t have consent from (you shouldn’t take off or land within 30m of someone who you don’t have consent of either)
  • Don’t fly within 4km of an aerodrome
  • Fly only in daylight
  • Make sure you can see the drone with your own eyes (or have a second person acting as an observer who can see it)
