Central Hawke’s Bay congratulates Queen Te Puhi Ariki Ngawai Hono i te Po Paki on bitter sweet day.

Tamatea Central Hawke’s Bay would like to extend both congratulations to Queen Te Puhi Ariki Ngawai Hono i te Po Paki on her succession to the throne, and acknowledgement of her and the wider grief of Māoridom today as Kīngi Tūheitia is laid to rest at his tangi.

“Congratulations to the new Queen. The sun is shining bright in Tamatea Central Hawke’s Bay today and I take that as a good sign of a positive future,” Walker says.

However, the enormity of this bittersweet day cannot be overlooked, Walker says.

“Kīngi Tūhetia left a legacy of unifying people across different sectors of society.  I was lucky enough to meet him and he left a long-lasting impression on me with his vision and leadership for Kotahitanga.”
