Local Learners Celebrated at Central Hawke’s Bay Mayoral Graduation Ceremony

More than 200 Central Hawke’s Bay graduates were acknowledged at the annual Central Hawke’s Bay Mayoral Graduation Ceremony last night, held at the Municipal Theatre in Waipawa.

Hosted by Central Hawke’s Bay Mayor Alex Walker, the graduation saw the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs and Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) partner together to celebrate success within the community. This is the second year the two entities have collaborated on a joint event, with the aim of capturing and acknowledging a greater number of local learners in Central Hawke’s Bay.

Graduates and their families, employers, EIT staff and invited guests were in the audience as students were presented their graduation certificates by Mayor Walker, qualifying in a broad range of fields.

“It’s fantastic to spend an evening celebrating the ongoing learning happening in our community” said Mayor Walker of the event. “This commitment to education is providing excellent employment outcomes for people of all sectors. We’re incredibly lucky in Central Hawke’s Bay to have so many active agencies working to increase vocational education - EIT, all ITOs, Central Hawke’s Bay College, and a number of other education providers in this space, offering our people the opportunity to continue their learning, upskill and improve their chances of employment”.

The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs is a network of New Zealand’s Mayors, working toward the common goal of all youth partaking in appropriate education, training, work or other positive activities. It offers industry training graduation ceremonies nationwide to recognise the achievements of graduate trainees.  Mayors Taskforce for Jobs presented certificates to over 40 graduates at last night’s Central Hawke’s Bay celebration.

The guest speaker of the evening was Noa Woolloff, Taskforce Coordinator at Mayors Taskforce for Jobs and founder of ‘Increase Clothing’, a social enterprise supporting young parents. Sandra Fleming, EIT Central Hawke’s Bay Learning Centre Coordinator, gave the closing address.
