On the 1st July this year the government is introducing a $10 per tonne waste minimisation levy which will be applied to all waste going to landfills in New Zealand. From the 1st July the refuse disposal fees at the transfer station and landfill are increasing to allow for this waste minimisation levy. Council's fees for waste disposal at these facilities have not increased.

Some of the green waste fees are also increasing to reflect the actual costs of processing the green waste. Even with these increases, separating green waste remains very cost effective compared to sending it to the landfill.

Recycling ridged plastics numbered 1-6, paper, cardboard, steel / aluminium cans and glass bottles and jars in Central Hawke's Bay remains free at our 7 recycling drop-off centres.
