The Waste Exchange

War Memorial

The Waste Exchange' is a nationally accessible database where you may register your reusable waste products such as packaging, scrap wood, polystyrene etc...FREE on their website. There, they may be matched to someone who can use them.

The new waste management system introduced by Central Hawke's Bay District

Council is being given the thumbs-up by the Hawke's Bay Waste Exchange.

The programme is a free service aimed at finding alternatives for businesses when disposing of their waste. It also encourages community groups and organisations to recycle and reuse such resources.

Examples

A Hastings fish and chip shop for example used to discard a number of polystyrene fish bins daily, but we managed to recycle these by identifying that The Seahorse Farm needed bins for the delivery and transportation of live sea life throughout New Zealand.

Other examples are bread trays being reused by native plant nurseries, wooden pallets turned into compost bins for schools, untreated timber off cuts recycled for firewood and plastic containers reused for fuel storage purposes.
