Any self constructed awning made from permanent materials.

How do I apply?


You will need to complete a Semi Permanent Awning application form. These are also available from the council offices at 43 Ruataniwha Street, Waipukurau (behind Harcourts) or 32 Ruataniwha Street, Waipawa. You may also phone Council on 06-857-7731 or e-mail the Building Control Administrator and request that a form be posted to you

What we need from you

Once you have completed the application which consists of the application form, plans, specifications & fee of $110.00 you need to forward it to Council either by dropping it into our Waipukurau or Waipawa office or posting it to

The application should contain the following

  • Two copies of plans showing plan view, four elevations, and a cross section giving details of materials from foundation to roof cladding.
  • Two copies of the site plan (1:100)
  • A Semi Permanent Awning application form
  • A Semi Permanent Awning Discount of $33 is available for several inspections carried out at the same time

The process

The Building Inspector will approve the consent, subject to any amendments required.

How long will it take?

You will be notified of the result of your applications within ten working days of receipt of the full application and deposit of fees. If the value of work is over $500,000 please allow 20 working days for notification.
