RESPONSIBILITY FOR OPEN DRAINS

Council is reviewing which open stormwater drains it will maintain in Waipukurau and Waipawa.  Comments on this proposal are invited by 30 July 2009.

  • Council has identified five private drains which could become Council's responsibility to maintain.
  • We would like to hear about any other open drains that you think may fall under Council's responsibility.
  • Maps of all drains - including those mentioned above - can be viewed at the Council offices in Waipawa and Waipukurau, and at the Waipawa Library.

The contact person is Steve Thrush at the Council, telephone 8578060 or email
steve.thrush@chbdc.govt.nz.  Steve is happy to discuss each situation by telephone or personally on site.

It is preferred that comment is made by letter or by email so that Council has a record of your comments.  Council will consider information it receives from land owners and the public, and then make a final decision about which open drains it will assume responsibility for.
