Noise Control

You have the right to have excessive noise stopped or reduced at any time of day or night.

Who do I call

To lodge a noise complaint please contact the Noise Control officer on 06-857-8060.

Excessive noise is any noise under human control, which unreasonably interferes with the peace, comfort and convenience of any person.

The Noise Control officer determines the excessiveness of the noise by considering the effect the noise is having on the complainant, while taking into account the time of day, background noise and duration.

If the noise is found to be excessive a noise abatement notice is issued requiring the noise to be reduced to a reasonable level.  Failure to comply with the notice can result in seizure of the equipment, and where deemed necessary the equipment can be disposed of.
