Properties in township areas that are larger than 2000m2 in area or are commercial users have water meters. Meters are read in May and November of each year.
Water rates increase
Central Hawke's Bay water charges are increasing.
Charges for metered water have increased from 1 July 2008. The charges have been revised based on the real cost of operations to supply water to the district. Working closely with our contractors, Central Hawke's Bay District Council has determined the true cost of producing one cubic meter of water to properties to be $1.17 (including GST). The new charge has increased accordingly to this figure from $1.11 / m³.
The first 300m³ (300,000 litres) will be included as part of your water rates. If you use less than 300m³ per year, your water rates will cover all costs and there will be no further charges. If you use more than 300m3, you will be invoiced on a user-pays basis at the rate of $1.17 / m3 (including GST).
[The threshold of 300m³ per year is set above the volume of water an average Central Hawke's Bay household would use in a year – 274 m³ / year as per the Ministry of Health guidelines.]
If you would like to know more or are concerned about the amount of water you use,
• Regularly read your water meter to get an understanding of how much water you usually use. If you notice an increase in your usage, you may have a leak within your property. • Check for water leaks by turning off all of your taps and look to see if the water meter is still moving; if it is you probably have a leak that you will need to repair. A plumber will be able to do any repairs required.
