How Are Rates Calculated?

Rate Types and Basis Used To Calculate Rate Liability

There are four different types of rating used for calculating rates:

  • GENERAL RATES: Paid by all ratepayers, depending on the rate this is either based on the Land Value or Capital Value of the property.
  • UNIFORM ANNUAL GENERAL CHARGE (UAGC): All ratepayers are charged the same amount.
  • TARGETED RATE: Funded by a specified group of ratepayers differentiated as outlined below. Depending on the rate this is either based on the Land Value or Capital Value of the Property, or the availability of the service.
  • UNIFORM TARGETED RATE: Those that have the service available pay a standard charge, differentiated as outlined below. For Sewerage and Water this is based on the availability of service and the number of connections.
