General and Targeted Rates charged to all Ratepayers

General Rates

A general rate based on the rateable capital value of all rateable property within the District for the purposes of providing administration, cost of democracy, community voluntary support grants, planning, health inspection, liquor licensing, dangerous goods, litter control, animal control, rural fire, traffic safety, building & general inspection, civil defence, sewerage monitoring and 60% of the cost of the operation and maintenance of parks and reservers, halls, cemeteries, libraries, public conveniences and the Civic Theatre and miscellaneous property costs.

District Land Transport Rate

A land value based rate for funding the operation and maintenance of the land transport system.

District Uniform Annual Charge (DUAC)

A unifrom targeted rate based on each separately used or inhabited part of a rating unit within the District. This rate is for the purpose of funding waste management, District Promotion, libraries, swimming facilities and 40% of the costs of the operation and maintenance of parks and reservers, halls, cemeteries, libraries, public conveniences and the Civic Theatre and miscellaneous property costs.

Target Rates Payable

(charged to those ratepayers to whom the services are available):

District Stormwater Drainage Rate

A Capital value based rate for the purpose of funding operations and maintenance of stormwater drainage systems of Waipawa, Waipukurau and Porangahau.

Stormwater Drainage Loans Rate

A Capital value based rate for funding improvements and loan charges on the stormwater drainage systems of Waipawa, Waipukurau and Porangahau.

Loan Charges Rate

A Land value based rate for paying certain loan charges that parts of the district are responsible for.

Waipukurau Mainstreet Rate

A Capital value based rate for funding a share of the services provided from the Waipukurau Information Centre and facilitate the promotion of the Waipukurau CBD.

Ward Amenities Separate Rate

A land value based rate for funding roading improvements, new road works, roadside weed control, footpaths, minor ward amenities and ward halls with in each ward of the district

Uniform Targeted Rates Payable

( charged to those ratepayers to whom the services are available)

District Water Supply Rate

For funding the operation and maintenance of urban water supplies in those parts of the district where water supplies are provided. If the supply is available but not connected a half charge applies.

Water Supply Loans Rate

For funding the improvements and loan charges for urban water supplies in those parts of the district where water supplies are provided.

Refuse Collection Rate

For funding costs of collecting household and commercial refuse where these services are provided. If you are on the collection route this rate applies even if you do not take advantage of the service.

Recycling Collection Rate

For the purpose of funding the costs of collecting household recycling where these services are provided in Waipawa and Waipukurau. If you are on the collection route this rate applies even if you do not take advantage of the service.

District Sewerage Maintenance Rate

For the purpose of funding the operations and maintenance of urban sewerage disposal systems in those parts of the District where a sewage disposal system is provided. If this service is available but not connected a half charge applies. Domestic users pay one pan charge per connection.

Sewerage Loan Rate

For the purpose of funding the improvements and loan charges for urban sewerage systems in those parts of the District where a sewage disposal system is provided.
