CAMPING IN PUBLIC AREAS

Central Hawkes Bay District Council in association with the 'Pourerere Beach Committee' will again be using a system of 'Pre-Registration Permits' for campers wishing to use designated 'Beach Camping' sites in public areas at Pourerere Beach.

NOTE: Extensive damage caused by the April 2011 coastal floods to some of the public areas used for 'Beach Camping' means there will be substantially less sites available this year and some of the usual site allocations will not be able to be made. This will result in more applications than usual being unsuccessful.

NO PERSON(s) will be permitted to 'Beach Camp' at Pourerere Beach without prior 'Permitted' approval from Council.  This applies at all times.

APPLICATIONS for a site during the period 19 December 2011 and 6 February 2012 (inclusive) for periods of up to 14 days duration must be made to Council by 4pm on Friday 14th October 2011.  Site allocations will be notified in writing to successful (and unsuccessful) applicants by Friday 11th November 2011.  PLEASE NOTE that if site applications exceed the available space, the allocating Committee reserves the right to reduce allocations to 7 days if required.  This may especially apply to the period 19 December 2011 to 15 January 2012 and in light of the information shown above.

EACH APPLICATION for a 'permit' during the above dates MUST be accompanied by the administration fee of $35 per permit.  Payment can be made by cheque with the application form if mailing or by cash or EFTPOS at the Council offices in Waipawa or Waipukurau when delivering an application in person. 

NO FEE : NO PROCESSING OF APPLICATION.

Due to the expected high demand and less available sites than usual an application may not necessarily result in a site allocation.  Unsuccessful applicants will have their 'administration fee' refunded.

Applications MUST include:

• Full name of applicant
• Full postal address of applicant
• Contact phone number for applicant
• Dates a site is required for (up to 14 days)
• Mode of camping (e.g. tent, caravan, camper-van etc)
• Number of adults & children in group

Pourerere Beach Camping Application forms for 2011/12 are available from the Council offices in Waipawa and Waipukurau or can be downloaded here, or a letter containing the above information can be sent to the address below.  E-mail application for Pourerere Beach camping are acceptable by bruce.kitto@chbdc.govt.nz providing the above information is included.  However e-mail applications will not be processed until the 'administration fee' set out above is received by Council.
