  • No more cheques to write and remember to post by due date
  • No more missed payments - no penalties
  • No additional bank fees to set this up
  • Automatic adjustment of Direct Debit amount each year as your annual rates change

Your bank statement will record how much you have paid and that you paid it to the CHB District Council. The quarterly rates statement will acknowledge the receipt of your payments and also advise the amount to be direct debited from your account. You can withdraw from the Direct Debit scheme at any time and return to paying your rates manually.

Direct Credit Payments

Weekly, Fortnightly or Monthly

This is a popular method of payment. You control this through your bank.  Council cannot adjust this in any way.  You should check each year to see if your payments are sufficient to cover your rates. A quick calculation: Take the amount of the Annual Rates levied, divided by the frequency of payment - e.g. 12 for monthly, 26 for fortnightly and 52 for weekly. If you require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us on +64 6 857 8060 or e-mail rates@chbdc.govt.nz It is the ratepayers responsibility to ensure that property references, i.e. valuation numbers are included in the reference section of all payment authorities.

No payment splits will be done by Council administration staff. Individual automatic payment authorities are required for each property. If individual authorities are not received all payments will be made to one property with the possibility of penalties being incurred.

Rates Discounts (Early payment of rates in the current financial year)

Pursuant to Section 24 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, a discount of 2.5% will be allowed on the payment of the full years rates on a date in August as specified on your rates letter.
