  2. How do I organise a burial, and how do I go about purchasing a plot?
  3. Whose responsibility is the plot/headstone area after burial?
  4. What can I do with ashes?

1) Can I book a Council hall for a function/event? How do I go about doing this?

A. Yes. Phone the Council who will give you details of hall committees who run various Council halls.

If it is the Waipawa Town Hall you wish to hire, contact Council. You will be put through to the Services Administration Officer who will pencil you in for the date you have requested.

An application form will be sent to you along with conditions of hire, prices and hall details.

Read the material that has been sent, fill out the form and as long as requirements are met, your request will be processed.

2) How do I organise a burial, and how do I go about purchasing a plot?

An undertaker will usually organise the burial, but this is not essential. Contact Council if you would prefer.

You can purchase a plot by visiting Council, viewing cemetery maps and choosing a site. You will need to fill out a Sale and Purchase Agreement and pay a fee. You are only allowed one plot.

3) Whose responsibility is the plot/headstone area after burial?

After burial, the responsibility of headstones and plaques is that of the owners/families.

A headstone/plaque permit is required.

You are not to plant anything on a plot or in the cemetery. Check with Council.

4) What can I do with ashes?

If you wish to put ashes in the cemetery, come to Council and fill out an ‘Application for Burial of Ashes'. These are free of charge and are for recording purposes only.
